Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Anjan Dutta passed away on Thursday morning at AIIMS hospital in Delhi. Dutta was admitted to ICU ward of the hospital on May 17 after he was moved from a private hospital. He was undergoing treatment for pneumonia.

Dutta served as the MLA of Amguri constituency in Assam for three times and also as the minister of transport in the state.

Dutta was born on April 13, 1952 in the Sivasagar district of Assam. As a minister of transport, Dutta revived the almost dying Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) and has received great accolades far and wide for doing so. Also as an industry minister, he brought life and vigour in the Assam Tea Corporation and set benchmarks for his colleagues.

Former chief minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi expressed his condolences to the aggrieved family. He took to Twitter to express the loss.
