A Joint Committee on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 will be in Assam on a two-day visit on November 2-3. The visit is in response to Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s request to the chairman of the committee Satyapal Singh during his last visit to New Delhi.

The representatives of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) had also requested the chairman during their meeting for a special sitting in Assam.

The Joint Committee will take hearing on the views of various organisations and stakeholders regarding the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 on November 2 (2pm- 6pm) and November 3 (9am-12 noon) at the Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara.

Interested organisations/ stakeholders may place their views before the committee on the respective time and dates.

Three nodal officers of the government have been designated for the coordination with the interested parties. They are can contacted before 8pm on October 31 to facilitate time slots for the hearing.
