Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed in an armed ambush by militants along the Assam-Arunachal border near Jairampur on Sunday morning.

Army sources confirmed The News Mill that two jawans were killed when militants attacked Assam Rifles jawans between Jagun and Jairampur at the inter-state border.

As the encounter was on, a number of vehicles, carrying both domestic and foreign tourists and heading to Pangsau Pass Winter Festival in Nampong, were stranded.

News agency IANS quoted Assam Director General of Police Mukesh Sahay saying that security forces had launched a counter-insurgency operation against the militants. The report further quoted Tinsukia Superintendent of Police Mugdhajyoti Mahanta saying that “15 or 20 militants laid the ambush.
