Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Kalikho Pul stumped police officials on Monday as he made a surprise visit to the first all-women police station in the state at Itanagar. The chief minister also visited the Itanagar Police Station, to see for himself how the facilities are like and to get a first-hand account of the condition in which the state police is working.
Speaking to the women police personnel, Pul informed that women police stations will be opened in all the districts and 400 posts for women police will be created and posted in these police stations.

Continuing with his unannounced visits, the chief minister took stock of the “ground reality” as he checked the working conditions including toilet and sanitation facilities. Pulling up officials, the chief minister said that the police should serve themselves first and then they would be able to garner respect of the public and be able to serve them better. “The disorderly way you maintain of yourself will (Try your luck at and win free dollars) reflect in your commitment to your duty and discipline,” said the CM looking at broken window panes, filthy toilets and garbage dump on the campus. “No one will come to clean your toilet; it has to be by yourself,” the chief minister added.

As a major step for providing better facilities to the women police, the government has also kept a provision of Rs 44 Crore in the budget estimate for 2016-17 for construction of women police stations including housing facilities in all the districts, the chief minister informed.

In another surprise move, Pul also inspected the lockup rooms and met the inmates. He asked them about their background and their family and also about the facilities provided in the lockup – the food, the level of health and hygiene maintained in the lockup.
In a scene that went emotional with inmates crying profusely, the CM calmly advised them to look for healthy means of livelihood and not to make their family members feel ashamed.
