Putting a big question mark on the Gujarat model of development, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday exposed chinks on the much hyped Modi’s model of development and said if the same model is replicated for India, development will be eluding the people.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Assam chief minister  said that as per CAG report the debt burden hovering around Gujarat rose to staggring Rs 1,50,153 crore which is the third highest in the country. If the Gujarat model of development puts the state into huge burden, it remains everybody’s guess how the country will march ahead if the same model of development is replicated.

Gogoi also trots out, “Gujarat model of development is considered as the brainchild of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the CAG report showing whopping loan burden on Gujarat reflects the redundancy of the model.  It drilled many holes in Chief Minister Anandiben Patel’s first year in office as chief minister. ”

Gogoi also added that the report also exposed Gujarat’s shabby financial discipline on all fronts. Health care facilities in government hospitals were in shambles with patients were denied even most common and basic medicines. The report also suggested that security of the state needed an overhaul. Moreover, the CAG report also exposed irregularity of whopping Rs 20 thousand crore in Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation.

“If this is the state of affairs in Gujarat, it really cast aspersions on Modi’s development model and demands a replacement if the future of the country is to be secured”, Gogoi added.
