Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that education that addresses skill development holds the key in creating employment avenues and solving unemployment problems to a great extent.

Speaking as the chief guest at the 5th Convocation of Don Bosco University at Azara in Guwahati, Sonowal said that in a short span of its existence, Don Bosco University has already curved a niche in the education environment of the state. He also said that Don Bosco University can contribute in the promotion of skill development and said that a synergy between the state government and Don Bosco University will delve a huge fillip to the proliferation of skill development in the state.

He also urged all the passed out students of the university to be ambassadors and spread the values of education by championing the causes of honesty, universal brotherhood and integrity. Sonowal also asked the students to inculcate amongst themselves the values to become ideal citizens and foster peace, tranquillity, equality in the society. He said, “The society looks forward to you to bring about changes in positive direction and create an environment of values in our state, nation and the world. So please work diligently to materialize these values for a better tomorrow”.

Altogether 648 students received their certificates of whom 36 per cent were women. Chancellor of Don Bosco University, Father VM Thomas, vice chancellor Father Stephen Mavley and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
