With a view to promote the civilization and potential of mighty Brahmaputra River in the global arena, a mega cultural tourism festival was announced by the Assam government. The proposed five-day festival, covering the entire stretch of the river in the state, is scheduled to be held in the last part of March next year.
Assam transport minister and officials of IWT department on December 12 briefed chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal about the vision and proposed plan of the festival. The chief minister stressed on the need to focus on the rich civilization and it’s potential to the entire world through the festival. “Locals used to have an emotional bonding with the Brahmaputra but over the years the bond is weakening. This festival should create an environment for reconnecting the people with their roots and rejuvenate the Brahmaputra civilization,” he said.
The mega festival, which will simultaneously be held at different locations on the banks of river Brahmaputra – starting from Sadia to Dhubri – will focus on Assam’s culture, trade and tourism potentials and act as an elixir to promote harmony and brotherhood amongst all communities of the state. The chief minister further directed the concerned officials to finalize modalities for branding Assam as a sought-after tourist destination through this festival. He further directed the officials to reach out to all domestic and foreign tourists by devising a comprehensive plan for the festival.
