Assam Tourism brand ambassador and internationally acclaimed actress Priyanka Chopra met Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Guwahati on Saturday evening. The duo discussed about the potential of tourism in Assam and the need to strategizing the promotion initiatives.
The chief minister thanked Priyanka Chopra for accepting the proposal of the Assam government for becoming the brand ambassador to promote Assam Tourism in the global arena and said that her aura and clout will bring rich dividend to state tourism. Sonowal also highlighted the beautiful landscape, wildlife potential and rich cultural and traditional resources of Assam and requested her to cultivate on them through her promotional campaign.
Sonowal also informed the new brand ambassador about the factors which are adversely affecting tourism in Assam. “It is the mindset of the people that is the major detergent in Assam becoming a major tourist hotspot. The promotional campaign should counter the age-long negative publicity of the state changing the mindset of the people”, the chief minister stressed. Sonowal also praised the Bollywood actress for her scintillating performance in the movie Mary Kom and said that her vitality and vigour will do wonders for tourism in Assam.
Expressing her joy in being associated with the promotion of Assam tourism, the Bollywood actress said that her campaign will not focus promoting tourism alone. “The campaign will be an initiative to ensure a better connect between the people of Assam and the mainland India and to include it in the mainstream Indian society,” Priyanka Chopra said.
