Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal meeting AASU delegates

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal requested the All Assam Students Union (AASU) members to create awareness among the people living in the fringe areas of the rhino habitats to help them to nurture the avowed objective of protecting the prestige animal. The chief minister informed a 40-member AASU delegation that he would instruct the district administration of all the five districts to extend all possible help to AASU in the awareness drive.

A 40-member AASU delegation led by its advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya, president Dipanka Kumar Nath and its secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi met Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at his office on Thursday evening.

The AASU delegation thanked the chief minister for tagging along with the AASU members for visiting Indo-Bangla border, paying tributes to the martyrs of Asom Agitation and paying financial grants to the next of the kin of the martyrs. The delegation also thanked the CM for the steps he has taken in updating the NRC and providing constitutional safeguard to the indigenous people of Assam following Clause 6 of Assam Accord. The delegation hoped that the state government will bring about all round development of the state.

Sonowal informed that the government will hold a bilateral dialogue at the state level and a trilateral discussion at the Central level for implementation of the clauses of Assam Accord. He also requested the AASU delegation to maintain a close vigil on the activities of the state government so that the people of the state can take the benefits of a good and responsible government.
