Zubeen Garg threatened to sue Udit Narayan and the makers of the film in a viral Facebook post

Popular Assam musician Zubeen Garg threatened to take legal action against the music director behind Bollywood singer Udit Narayan’s alleged rip-off of one of his popular Assamese songs – Pakhi Pakhi Ei Mon.

In a strongly worded Facebook post, the Assamese singer lashed on Narayan and his team for copying his famous song ‘Pakhi Pakhi Ei Mon’, which Zubeen wrote, composed and sung 15 years back. The song was a superhit and still regarded as one of the best compositions of the popular singer who rose to fame with his Bollywood superhit ‘Ya Ali’.

“This song recently sung by Udit Narayan ji is a total copy of my song ‘pakhi pakhi ei mon’ which I wrote/composed and sung 15 years ago. As an artist, I won’t tolerate this, and I hereby declare that I am going to take legal action against this. I condemn this act,” Zubeen wrote on his official Facebook page on Thursday.

Zubeen also tweeted sharing the YouTube video of the Odiya song sung by Udit Narayan for the film Tapori. The song, ironically, is named Pakhi Pakhi. Here’s the song:

Zubeen tagged Udit Narayan on his Facebook post but no official comment was received from the senior Bollywood singer till filing of this report.

The serious allegation went viral within minutes with more than 1,500 shares and fans negatively reviewing the YouTube song. “If you don’t have any talent, you should not direct music. For your mistake, one legendary singer is being abused by fans. In Assam, people can die for Zubeen da and you have absolutely no right to copy his music. Stop making songs, you are nothing more than a waste…” wrote one of the fans on the YouTube video which was shared by Ardhendu Sahu, the lead actor of the movie.

Assamese actress Kalpana Kalita, who acted in the film and was featured in the video, wasn’t spared as well as fans blamed her for being a part of the rip-off.

Here’s Zubeen Garg’s original song which was a cult classic:
