Film-making is a long drawn process. It isn’t like the heavily auto-tune induced super songs. For sure!

While Assamese films hit theatres, stirs some controversy over lack of slots, touches some niche audience and get lost in the wind – a few managing just decent commercial success – for an average cine-goer, the buzz was always about Bollywood… local cinema was at the back seat, almost always.

Breaking stereotype, it was a fun-filled super-rush – and tense – Wednesday when the makers of Local Kung Fu 2, the sequel to the popular martial arts movie, got netizens involved with the Censor-approval process…rather making of the DD – the demand draft! Yes, the makers kept updating about the long drawn process on the social media – keeping fans in the loop. It was interesting to see how actually filmmakers work to get their product to the silver screen.

“Ban gaya DD!” reads one post, drawing more than a 100 likes. Probably, it means the film is set to sit for the Censor board screening.

In fact, if we dig deep, the makers of Local Kung Fu 2 always involved the fans in their entire film making process. With every update to the difficult task of shooting in summer to their successful crowd-funding campaign on Wishberry.in, Local Fung Fu involved the community to keep the interest level high.

Online communities like Guwahati Metro Community and Guwahati Foodie were seen supporting the film throughout the successful crowd-funding campaign which raised more than Rs 8 lakhs for the post-production of the feature film.

Support from the news media – print, electronic and online – was also vital for the campaign. Probably exciting and refreshing content glued the fans and that gelled on to get maximum media mileage.

As I write this, Assam’s best U-18 don Bonzo is thanking the contributors for making the crowdfunding campaign a success – in his own unique style. Here’s a glimpse of the same. Note, it has gone viral! A thank you note going viral! LOL!

Director Kenny Basumatary’s sequel to the cult classic martial arts movie is an adaptation to William Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors. Kenny, earlier, had informed that they were pushing to release the film on April 19. Let’s wait for the Censor screening update on their Facebook page. But all thanks to the fans, Bonzo’s coming back for sure!

(Confession: The writer is a fan of Local Kung Fu and is helping it reach the larger audience. Hobo de!)
