When urban-Assamese-youth-lingo is mixed with swift martial arts, tossed with witty dialogues; it’s Local Kung Fu.

The sequel to the popular martial arts comedy, Local Kung Fu 2, was premiered at Guwahati’s Jyoti Chitraban on Tuesday, paving the way for its release on Wednesday.

The film showcases perfect blend of comedy, confusion, punch dialogues and loads of punches. An adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play Comedy of Errors, actors Utkal Hazowari and Kenny Basumatary play double roles in the film.

One pair of Utkal-Kenny belongs to Guwahati while the other two stay at Tezpur. They don’t know each other. The Guwahati pair knows martial arts while the Tezpur two don’t.

The Guwahati pair runs into gang of gangsters as one of them is a police officer while the other is a television video journalist. Pursued by the gangsters, the Guwahati-two reaches Tezpur and then begins a pile of confusion and action.

The film speaks easy on the young audience as it is easily relatable to daily chores. Local Kung Fu 2 also leaves behind subtle messages against homophobia and substance abuse – an applause-worthy input in an otherwise comedy film.

Speaking at the premier of the film, actor-director-producer Kenny Deori Basumatary said, “It is a very difficult task to create a sequel, especially when the previous film has already set a very high benchmark. So instead of trying to extend the previous story, we have prepared a completely new story for Local Kung Fu 2. We hope our audience will love and enjoy this film as much as the previous one.”

Executive producer Durlov Baruah took the opportunity to thank everyone who made it possible for them to release the film on the scheduled date. Interestingly, the film raised more than Rs 8 lakhs through a successful crowdfunding campaign on Wishberry.in.

The cast of the film also includes Sarmistha Chakravorty, Eepsita Hazarika, Bonny Deori, Tony Deori Basumatary, Bibhash Singha, Bibhuti Bhushan Hazarika, Yashraj Jadhav, Montu Deori and Amar Singh Deori. The associate producers of the film are Advent Films and Marquish Basumatary, while Durlov Baruah is the executive producer. The story has been written and directed by Kenny Basumatary, and has been produced jointly by BP Deori and Kenny Basumatary. The cinematography has been done by Suruj Deka, coloured by Dhruva J. Bordoloi, and the music of the film has been prepared by Tony-Derrick-Utkash.

Besides Assam, the film is being released in Dimapur, Naharlagun, Itanagar, Shillong and Agartala. The team informed that the film will get an all-India release in 2-3 weeks.
