A smiling rap singer – isn’t it a beautiful aberration? For this Assam guy, studying at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi, rap comes to rescue – at least to vent his anger, with a smile, on the “incompetent decisions taken by the vice chancellor of the university.”

Rahul Rajkhowa took to his excellent rapping skills to vent his anger on the JNU administration for their decision to trim over 80 per cent seats in M Phil and PhD admissions for 2017-18.

The video, uploaded on YouTube on May 9, caught the attention of fellow netizens who supported Rajkhowa in his cause. Since its upload, the video grabbed more than 25,000 views. Media houses in the national capital too lapped up the story and highlighted the cause even as protests against the JNU move have been intense and long-lasting.

Rajkhowa introduces the rap as a mark of protest against the JNU Vice Chancellor for his “terrible decision making skills”. “…I decided to write a rap song against him. Please do share till it reaches him and he knows how disappointed everyone is on him,” he wrote on Facebook.

My University VC.
And how he messed with our lives so damn easy
They landed a paper on his table and said,
Sir there’s just too many students on this campus
There’s just so many people.
He said simple,
Wipe out Mphil for the next 3 years.
Cut away all the seats and watch em fight it out like fools for the next few years.

Earlier, Rajkhowa released another rap song in May last year, protesting against the propagation of stereotypes and discrimination against the people from Northeast India. He is a member of a blues band Paperboat.
