Taking a stern view on the delay of commissioning of water supply projects in Guwahati, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal asked the concerned department to expeditiously complete the projects.

Several areas in Guwahati are in shambles as the water supply project dug up the roads. Roads along Kahilipara, Sonaighuli-Dakshingaon, Hockey Stadium etc. are in shambles as the earring agencies dug up the roads and left them as that.

Taking a strong view, Sonowal also directed the concerned authority to take action against the agencies responsible for the inordinate delay in commissioning of the projects.

The directive came in the meeting convened to review the progress of water supply projects in the city at Janata Bhawan on May 30.

Sonowal directed action against the agencies which failed to complete the water supply projects within the stipulated time and asked the concerned authority to furnish the action taken report. He also took note of the reasons responsible for delay in the execution of the projects. He also asked the officers authorised to oversee the implementation works to ensure quality of construction.

JNNURM, JICA and ADB are executing water supply and water treatment projects in Guwahati. These projects have the potential of supplying 433 million litre of water to the city dwellers.
