Assam boy Riyan Parag Das has been selected for the under-19 Indian cricket team for the England tour. Riyan Parag Das is a hard hitting batsman and is the son of former Assam cricketer Parag Das and national award winning swimmer Mithu Baruah.

“I’m happy. I worked hard and this is what I was waiting for the last several years. I won’t let it go. I’m going to give 100 per cent,” said 16-year-old Riyan who also bowls leg break.

Riyan booked a berth in the 15-member Indian team to be led by Himanshu Rana of Haryana.

The team will play one warm-up match and two 4-day matches in England against the home side which starts from July 19.

Riyan has already made his debut for the state team in Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2016-17 season.

Riyan’s father Parag Das, who was an opening batsman for the state Ranji team, said that Riyan would get to learn batting under English conditions.

“It’s a great opportunity for Riyan. I hope he will learn to bat under the English condition which is very crucial for a batsman,” said the senior Das.

Riyan’s mother Mithu Baruah who holds national record in swimming has thanked everyone including Assam Cricket Association (ACA).

“Riyan has been very dedicated and obedient. I have always asked him to learn from his mistakes but not to repeat it,” an elated mother said.
