Assam industries and commerce department held an interactive consultative meet with various stakeholders on the upcoming Startup Policy of the Assam government at Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara on June 23.

The consultative meeting also discussed at length on the under construction incubation centre at Ambari, designed to nurture business from idea generation to startup companies.

The department of industries and commerce would soon notify a Startup Policy for state but prior to its adoption, the consultative meet was held to gather the feedback of the stakeholders in preparing a comprehensive policy that would benefit the entrepreneurs.

Chairing the meeting, additional chief secretary, industries and commerce, Ravi Capoor said, “Startup is the new buzz these days and the whole environment is reverberating with excitement and enthusiasm. It’s time to capture the energy and convert it into successful business ventures.”

He called upon all the stakeholders present to support and encourage the new generation of entrepreneurs in Assam and build a healthy startup ecosystem in the state.

Welcoming the gathering, commissioner, industries and commerce, KK Dwivedi said, “With regards to startups, Assam is yet to catch up with the counterparts of Western India. To encourage entrepreneurs, the incubation centre, through a comprehensive business support programme, will help them establish and accelerate their growth and success.”

Representatives from Dibrugarh University, Tezpur University, Assam Agriculture University, Cotton University, IIM-Shillong, IIM-Calcutta, Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati Biotech Park, Union Bank of India, Assam Gramin Vikash Bank, CIPET, STPI, FICCI, Coir Board, Laghu Udyog Bharati, departments of technical education, home & political, food & civil supplies, information technology etc. put forward their suggestions to which the industries and commerce officials assured of incorporating those in the draft policy.
