Budget carrier SpiceJet on Wednesday said it will provide electricity to un-electrified remote village of Baruahchuck, in Majuli district of Assam.

The airline has adopted the remote village under its initiative of “Roshan Hoga Desh Hamara”, launched on the occasion of Diwali.

Majuli has been recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest river island.

As part of the initiative, SpiceJet will set up a “solar microgrid”, which will help bring electricity to approximately 70 households, one school, one anganwadi centre and two temples, besides street lighting.

A solar microgrid is a small-scale power grid that can operate independently or in conjunction with the area’s main electrical grid to provide electricity to a limited number of households.
