‘Xhoixobote Dhemalite’ or ‘Rainbow Fields’ a film by Bidyut Kotoky which deals with the mental trauma of children grew up during the turbulent years of 1980s in Assam, has got the official selection at the maiden edition of Catoosa County Film Festival in the US which starts from Friday.

Earlier last month, the film received good reviews when it was screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

Rainbow Fields has got the official selection in the semifinal while Kokoty’s documentary ‘Guns and Guitar’ has also been selected in the final of the festival.

“As a filmmaker, I want my film to reach maximum possible viewers. Hence, it is indeed a happy moment for me when two of my films are selected or nominated in the same festival. It just reinforced my belief that colour of our emotions do not respect human made geographical boundaries…after all, our films speaks the language of our passions,” an elated Bidyut told The News Mill from Mumbai.

Narrating more on his film, the soft-spoken filmmaker said that ‘Xhoixobote Dhemalite’ is a semi autobiographical film.

“It is based on the life of children growing up in the Assam of 1980s, those violent times… and how that violence affected their life. In this film I’m talking about Assam as I know her better than any other place. But the story of Xhoihobote Dhemalite or Rainbow Fields could very well have been a story of children in conflict zone from any part of this world,” said Bidyut.

This is the second feature film of national award winning filmmaker Bidyut after ‘As the River Flows’ or ‘Ekhon Nedekha Nadir Xhipare’.

Apart from veteran actor Victor Banerjee, ‘Rainbow Fields’ also stars Dipannita Sharma, Nakul Vaid, Naved Aslam, Nipon Goswami and Nikumoni Barua among others.

“Rainbow Fields is a provocative film with some excellent child actors who easily upstage us veterans, with pleasure and my best wishes for a happy future. Enjoy Bidyut’s film and think not just about Assam but other people in India and the world who fight to find answers to some very tricky questions,” said Victor Banerjee.

Earlier in July, the film won the best foreign film award in the Hollywood International Cinefest.
