Chief of the Indian Army General Bipin Rawat commenced his visit to Army Spear Corps when he arrived at Dimapur airport in Nagaland on Thursday.

The Army chief will visit strategic locations in Assam, Nagaland and Manipur during the two-day visit on December 28-29.

Besides being briefed at various Army and Assam Rifles headquarters, General Bipin Rawat will also call on the chief minister of Nagaland to discuss vital aspects pertaining the state.

Besides the prevailing security situations in these states, facilitating the ongoing peace process as well as improving employment generation opportunities will also figure in the planned discussions.

During the visit, the Army chief will be accompanied by Lieutenant General Abhay Krishna, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Command and Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, General Officer Commanding Spear Corps.

The Spear Corps besides undertaking extensive counter insurgency operations in the three Northeast states is also responsible for conduct of operations along the Line of Actual Control in Arunachal Pradesh.

During the visit General Rawat will undertake an appraisal of operations of Spear Corps along the Line of Actual Control as well as counter insurgency operations.
