Assamese movie ‘Xhoixobote Dhemalite’ (Rainbow Fields) has been selected for the prestigious 11th International Children’s Film Festival in Bangladesh which will be held in the last month of January. The film made by national award winning director Bidyut Kotoky deals with the mental trauma of the children growing up in the turbulent era of Assam agitation.

The festival is scheduled to be held between January 27 and February 2 in the competitive panorama of the International Film Competition.

“I’m happy to see my film travelling to different places across the globe. I hope it continues to travel to the places. As a filmmaker it feels great if my film reaches the maximum number of viewers,” an elated Kotoky said.

In a letter to the director Kotoky, the festival director Abir Ferdous Mukhar said, “The selection committee worked very hard to select the top films from a huge submission of over a thousand films in the international film competition section to the festival this year. Please accept my personal appreciation for your outstanding accomplishment of the film as the director”.

It can be mentioned here that the film, that has already won many laurels in the country and outside, was earlier selected by Kids First – world’s largest platform for the children film.

Jury of the festival Juanita S said that the film offers an inside look at children growing up during a violent period in Assam and shows how they are affected.

“The film flows very well. The scenery of the Indian state of Assam is stunningly beautiful and calming, especially the scenes of the river bordering the village. This film encourages the idea of keeping promises and dreaming big no matter what happens. I recommend this for ages 12 to 18 and give it 4.5 out of 5 stars,” said Juanita.

Apart from veteran actor Victor Banerjee, ‘Rainbow Fields’ also stars Dipannita Sharma, Nakul Vaid, Naved Aslam, Nipon Goswami and Nikumoni Barua among others.

The film is ready to be released in theatres of Assam on January 16. Earlier, the film had won best foreign film award at Hollywood CineFest and had its world premiere at IFFI Goa, under the prestigious Indian Panorama.
