Xhoihobote Dhemalite to be released in January

RAINBOW FIELDS POSTER 1 – The News Mill

Globally acclaimed film ‘Xhoihobote Dhemalite’ or ‘Rainbow Fields’ made by national award winning filmmaker Bidyut Kotoky, based on the Assam Agitation in 1980s, all set to hit the theatres in January next year. The film which features Victor Banerjee and others was screened during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), in Goa last month.

“After the roller-coaster ride and of course receiving accolades from across the globe, we have reached the final stage of release. We are having discussions with the distributors for the arrangements. So, it will hit the theatres on January 16,” Bidyut, known for handling sensitive issues in his films, said.

Narrating more on his film, the soft-spoken filmmaker said that ‘Xhoixobote Dhemalite’ is a semi autobiographical film.

“It is based on the life of children growing up in the Assam of 1980s, those violent times… and how that violence affected their life. In this film I’m talking about Assam as I know her better than any other place. But the story of Xhoihobote Dhemalite or Rainbow Fields could very well have been a story of children in conflict zone from any part of this world,” said Bidyut.

This is the second feature film of national award winning filmmaker Bidyut after ‘As the River Flows’ or ‘Ekhon Nedekha Nadir Xhipare’.

In June this year, the film has won the ‘Best Foreign Film Award’ in the Hollywood International Cinefest.

On Thursday, the music of the film was also released in the city. The music of the film has been composed by another national award winner Anurag Saikia and the songs are sung by Zubeen Garg and Nilotpal besides new talent Dipakshi.

Anurag, one of the most sought after composers, said that the music numbers of the film carry the ethos of the film which is extremely sensitive.
