Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora has moved a resolution seeking that the national anthem be amended to replace the word ‘Sindh’ with ‘Northeast’.

“To make us feel integral part of the country I demanded mention of northeast in national anthem of our country. I have moved a private member resolution in Rajay Sabha in this regard. Looking forward for support of all MPs in passing of this resolution,” said Bora in New Delhi.

He said that Sindh has no longer been a part of India and there is no point of glorifying a place of a hostile country.

In this regard, Bora said Rajendra Prasad, the first president of India, had said on January 24, 1950 that the national anthem could be amended if needed.

Though the issue has been discussed on several occasions in the past, no one so far has raised the issue for any action.
