Abrupt shutdown of Aircel mobile service in the Northeast region has hit the subscribers. The Meghalaya police on April 16 stated that they are forced to change the cyber assistance cell helpline as the number is not working.

“This is to bring to the notice of the general public that in view of the shutting down of operation by Aircel mobile service from the state, the helpline in Cyber Assistance Cell, CID, Meghalaya, Shillong No 96151-91002 is no longer in service,” a statement released by Superintendent of Police (SCRB) DN Jyrwa said.

The police officer informed that the new helpline number is 9402519391.

Aircel filed for bankruptcy after over four months of attempts to settle matters with lenders. This led to service interruption of more than 5-6 lakh Aircel customers in the Northeast. The interruption in service arose from tower infrastructure providers stopping their services for the company due to financial issues. Aircel and its units are under a debt of Rs 50,000 crore to financial and operational lenders.
