The third edition of Northeast Fiesta organized by Northeast Students’ Organization in Jalandhar, Punjab came to a close on Sunday.

The two-day event, on April 7-8, was organized to celebrate culture and connect people from various parts of the country. Organized by Northeast Students’ Organization, Jalandhar, in association with Viva Collage Jalandhar, the event was aimed at introducing the culture of Northeast India among the people of Jalandhar.

Promoted as the biggest carnival of Northeast India in Punjab, the event showcased the cultural diversity of all the Northeast states.

During the day-time carnival, handicraft, handloom, art, traditional sport, photography and tourism exhibition were presented from all the eight states. Traditional folk dance and music from the 8 states mesmerised the guests. A few Northeast-based music bands also participated during the event.

Apart from that, a discussion session on relevant topics of Northeast was also organized which saw participation from speakers like Arvind Mishra, a Guinness world record holder and Tedx speaker.

A few start-up entrepreneurs from Northeast – TOTELL, Assam Arunachal Resort Harmutty, Deal Expertz, Maatrima – also participated in the discussion sessions.

Congratulating the students for highlighting the cultural diversity of the Northeast, Union minister Vijay Sampla thanked the students for being the link for cultural exchange.

The event also showcased a fashion show various designers from Northeast.

“We the Northeast students studying here in Punjab eagerly wait for this annual cultural festival. This event helps bring together all the students from the region and create a mini Northeast for two days. We learn the importance of unity in diversity through cultural exchanges with the host city Jalandhar,” said Tenong Takuk, president Northeast Students Organization Jalandhar.

The third edition of Northeast Fiesta came with an international twist. Singer Niharika Gyawali from Nepal mesmerised with her voice along with professional models from Afghanistan, Bhutan, and a few from African countries participated in the designer showcase.

Footballers Jeakson Singh Thounaojam and Nongdamba Naorem, both from India’s Under-17 Football World Cup 2017 squad, participated in the the event as guests of honour.
