A group of youth in Nagaon came together to host Nagaon International Short and Documentary Film Festival (NISDFF).
The group, who have been working to create a healthy film culture among the young generation in the rural areas by conducting workshops and film screenings in various educational institutes, are all set for their maiden venture which starts from September 8.
“This festival is dedicated to promote the short film genre, showcasing films of 1-30 minutes duration. Along with that, master classes by renowned film personalities and workshop by experts will be conducted. The festival is international in scope, bringing exposure to the world’s best independent up-and-coming filmmakers,” said Khanjan Kishore Nath, an independent filmmaker and the festival director.
The two-day festival will have six competition sections –International Short Film, International Documentary Film, Rest of India Short Film, Rest of India Documentary Film, Northeast Short Film and Northeast Documentary Film.
“This is probably for the first time that any festival in the region will have competition in all the sections. NISDFF’s goal is to motivate the aspiring students of the region to get into the field of visual media. NISDFF focuses to create an environment where students can experience the taste of good cinema and able to network with directors, screenwriters, actors, producers, industry professionals without any barrier,” added Nath, a member of Cinemalay, which is organizing the festival.
Among others, some highly critical documentaries and short films from different countries will be screened during the festival. The Dream Deli (Israel), Mountain Monks (Germany), Draft (Russia), Moving Canvas (Bangladesh) and Brave Bunch Children of Warsaw Uprising (Poland) are some of the documentaries to be screened.
Anna Hints directed ‘Ice’ from Estonia and ‘Dreamer’ directed by Sajjad Delafrooz from Iran are a few of the short films which got the official selection.
In the northeast section, award winning ‘Autodriver’ by Meena Longjam from Manipur, ‘Fireflies’ by Johnson Rajkumar from Manipur, ‘Brocken Spectre’ by Adhiraj Kashyap, Deepak Kumar’s ‘Gurdians of Pakke’ and Uddipta Dutta’s ‘Victims of Old Wives Tale’ will be screened.
