As part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Meghalaya governor Tathagata Roy on October 2 attended a awareness and cleaning drive in Shillong.

Initiated by GORETO Socio-Cultural & Welfare Society, Vivekananda Sangha and Greater Iew Polo Welfare Association at Polo, Shillong, the programme was also attended by state health and family welfare minister AL Hek, deputy commissioner East Khasi Hills PS Dkhar, CRPF personnel among others.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that hygiene is a key to good health and well being and stressed on the importance of keeping the homes, public places, localities and surroundings clean. In order to ensure cleanliness, he said it is important to generate awareness to motivate communities to adopt sustainable cleanliness practices every day.

Later, the governor along with general public took part in a cleaning drive in Polo Market and its adjoining areas.
