Jahnu Barua’s film Bhoga Khirikee (Broken Window), which was premiered at the Guwahati International Film Festival on Thursday, is riding on actress Priyanka Chopra to get attention across the country and abroad.

The inaugural film at the second edition of GIFF will not be released on Friday as announced earlier. The makers of the film on Friday announced that a top national-level company is joining the team and hence the commercial release has been postponed “by at least 3-4 weeks”.

Priyanka Chopra’s Purple Pebble Pictures and Easterly Entertainment of Mumbai came together to produce the Jahnu Barua-film.

“One very big national-level film company will get attached to Bhoga Khirikee which is a major boost for us. I don’t think it has ever happened in Assam that a big company has picked up any Assamese film. Though I won’t be able to name it right now but we will go in a big way across the country and also abroad,” Shahnaab Alam of Easterly Entertainment told The News Mill on the sidelines of the second Guwahati International Film Festival on Friday.

Bhoga Khirikee also happens to be the first Assamese film to be produced by Priyanka Chopra. “Having Priyanka itself is a great mileage for us and that’s the reason I approached her. And we were lucky that she straightway said ‘yes’ after she came to know that it’s Jahnu da’s film,” Alam added.

The cast of the film includes popular Assam actress Zerifa Wahid, Bandit Queen-fame Seema Biswas who also won the National Award for her critically acclaimed role, another highly rated actor Bishnu Kharghoria, actor and musician Joy Kashyap and Sanjoy Kharghoria among others.

Mumbai-based Mohommed Ali Shah, nephew of Naseeruddin Shah, has also played an interesting role in the film which is likely to hit the theatres later this year.

“We at Purple Pebble Pictures, along with our partners Easterly Entertainment, are committed to ensuring that the film gets the widest of audience across India and around the world. Even though this is a small-budget film, we intend to infuse good amount of resources for domestic, national and international promotions. And I will be personally involved in promoting this film,” Priyanka had said recently.
