Black seems to be the new enemy of the Sarbananda Sonowal-led government in Assam as the chief minister’s security is making all efforts to stop people from waving black flags in protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

A bizarre incident came to light on January 29 when security forces ensured that a 3-year-old couldn’t attend a function of the chief minister in Biswanath district wearing a black jacket. Video footage showed that the mother of the child was removing the jacket worn by the child as its colour was black even as security personnel were heard asking people to remove their black cloths.

“I had to remove the jacket even though it is cold as the security personnel did not allow my 3-year-old to enter the venue wearing the black jacket,” the mother of the child said.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal was in Biswanath district to lay the foundation stone of an ‘Eri Spun Silk Mill’ at Borgang.

Update: Later in the evening, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal asked for a probe into the matter and asked the DGP to submit a report.
