Guwahati Foodie organizes blood donation camp at GMCH

Northeast India’s largest Facebook group of food lovers with more than 1 Lakh members, Guwahati Foodie, on Sunday organized a blood donation camp at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The event, organized in association with Oriental Bistro, Foodie’s World, Rapido, 92.7 Big FM, Van Manush and The News Mill saw participation of more than 30 food lovers who donated blood on the occasion.

There were also many first-time donors who came forward and contributed. Apart from the donors, many volunteers came forward to support the cause and to help the managing committee in encouraging and providing nourishments to the donors.

Speaking on the occasion, organizer of the camp & founder of Guwahati Foodie, Sisir Kumar, said that since the group has evolved itself as the largest foodie group of the region, they are trying to carry across a social message. “Guwahati Foodie now has more than 1 Lakh members. Besides bonding over food, since some time we are doing events that carry a social message. Guwahati Foodie initiative EATucation has been successful in bringing together education and food. Similarly, we took up a challenge by organizing this voluntary blood donation camp,” said Sisir Kumar.

He added that the enthusiasm shown by the group members has motivated him to take up such initiatives. “I am happy to see so many members coming forward for such a noble cause. I am thankful to the members for their voluntary effort. I must also thank the partners for their support. A big thanks goes to GMCH for helping us donate,” Sisir added.

As a token of gratitude, the donors were given certificates, gifts and discount coupons on behalf of Guwahati Foodie. Sisir Kumar expressed sincere gratitude to all the donors, staff of the blood bank and supporters for making this event a grand success

Founded by Sisir Kumar, the Guwahati Foodie is the largest food-based Facebook group in the region. Earlier, the group organized EATucation to help students interact various industry leaders. The group also organized an eco-friendly potluck to promote eco-friendly products.

With its 1 Lakh-strong and growing members, Guwahati Foodie has been organizing various offline events which included special FIFA World Cup screening at Oriental Bistro, mini meet-up at Assam Bhawan in New Delhi, mini meet-up at Bangalore and annual meet-up at Guwahati etc.
