Guwahati-based playwright-lyricist, Rajdweep, has been conferred with the 2018-19 Best Play of the Year Award for his play ‘Bondookor Kobita’ by the All Assam Sahitya Sanmilan.

The play is based on insurgency and is set up during the period of insurgency-hit Assam and revolves around the life of a simple young man who loves writing poetry, but is forced to follow the path of insurgency.

As a lyricist for Assamese as well as Bollywood movies like ‘Jagga Jasoos’, ‘A Death In The Gunj’, and having honoured by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan for his screenplay ‘Ishqology’, Rajdweep, who also works as a journalist, continues his good work in the mobile theatre industry.

‘Bondookor Kobita’ was widely appreciated by the theatre-lovers in Assam. The play was written for Hengool Theatre, a prominent mobile-theatre group of Assam which was dedicated in memory of Prashanta Hazarika and Ila Kakati, two of Assamese culture’s prominent figures.

Rajdweep has been writing plays which are socially relevant and on unorthodox subjects. His play ‘Bonoriya’ dealing with the political scenario of the state, ‘Breaking News’ about the media industry, and ‘Bauli Mur Priya’ highlighting the power of love over religion were widely loved by the audience.
