The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) declared the results of higher secondary (Class XII) examinations on May 25. The board released the HS final examination results of all three streams – Arts, Science and Commerce on Saturday.

Sayan Mazumdar of Darrang College, Sonitpur and Bitupan Arandhara of Ramanujan Junior College, Nagaon secured the first position in Science. Ashim Sarkar of Vivekananda Junior College, Cachar secured the first position in Commerce while Khusbu Firdaus of Brilliant Academy Junior College, Darrang secured the first position in Arts.

AHSEC conducted HS examination from February 12 to March 14 with over 2.4 lakh students appearing the exams. Out of the total number of students, 1,78,998 candidates appeared under Arts stream, 36,469 under Science stream, 17,797 under Commerce stream and 910 candidates have appeared under the Vocational stream.

This year, out of 1,78,998 candidates who appeared for the Arts examination, 75.14 per cent have passed it. The pass percentage for Commerce stream stood at 87.59 per cent and that for the Science stream was 86.59 per cent.

The overall pass percentage recorded this year was 80.57 per cent.

Upper Assam’s Sivasagar district topped the district wise performance in the Science stream with a pass percentage of 93.42 per cent. In the Arts stream, Dhemaji emerged as the most successful district with a pass percentage of 89.52 per cent and in Commerce, Nalbari topped the merit list with a pass percentage of 97.79 per cent.

Hima Das shines

Arjuna Awardee and sprint sensation Hima Das also came out with flying colours in the Class XII examination results. Hima secured 1st division with a letter mark in Assamese in the results declared on Saturday. Speaking to the media, Hima’s father Rajit Das said, “We are very happy — despite training she passed with a first division.”

The ‘Dhing Express’ appeared for her examination from the Dhing College in the Arts stream. Hima secured 63 marks in English, 84 in Assamese, 60 in Advanced Assamese, 75 in Political Science, 67 in Education and 46 in Geography.
