Arunachal Pradesh MLA Tirong Aboh, who was killed by militants near Bogapani on May 21, won the Khonsa West assembly seat, the counting of which was conducted on Thursday.
Aboh, who was contesting the state elections on a National People’s Party (NPP) ticket won the Khonsa West by defeating his only rival Phawang Lowang of the Bharatiya Janata Party by a margin of 1055 votes.
As many as 11 persons, including Tirong Aboh and his son, were killed when they were returning to Khonsa to take part in the counting on May 21.
Suspected NSCN (IM) militants opened fire on the convoy of the MLA near Bogapani village in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.
Pall of gloom descended on Khonsa as the bodies were brought to the eastern Arunachal township on Tuesday.
Many supporters on Thursday demanded that Aboh’s wife should be elected to the state assembly as the slain leader’s win means there will be by-election in the Khonsa West seat.
On Wednesday, the Assam Rifles launched a massive combing operation in the area to nab the culprits behind the killings.
