The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) will be raising the issue of re-polling in 433 booths of West Tripura constituency with the Supreme Court on Monday after instances of alleged poll rigging and malpractices in several booths disrupted the free and fair election process.
TPCC President Pradyot Manikya on May 18 while addressing a live Facebook session said, “A lot of developments are happening in Delhi and tomorrow in a meeting where it will be decided what the Congress party will take to the Supreme Court on May 20 regarding re-poll in Tripura West Constituency.”
He raised a question about the RO’s report which stated that elections were not conducted in a free and fair manner in 433 booths which was ruled out and only 168 booths were singled out and a re-poll was conducted only in these booths of Tripura West Constituency.
“We will not give up easily. We have met the Election Commission twice on this issue and we demand a written response from the EC about why was the report of the RO overruled,” Manikya added.
He also stated, “This election has been a very dirty one, full of personal attacks, fake news, false propaganda and the likes. In 2019, we should talk about employment, development, CAB, 7th Pay commission and employment issues and leave aside unnecessary conversations.”
He also rued about the degrading political culture in West Bengal and Tripura.
