E-commerce giant Amazon India prominently featured Assam’s Mekhela Chador in its latest #WeThankYouIndia campaign to celebrate the company’s 6th anniversary in India.

Releasing a video on the social media, the e-commerce giant said that, “Today crores of people lead a successful life because of you. For providing them with opportunities and helping them realise their dreams, #WeThankYouIndia.”

The video starts with showcasing the Mekhela Chador, the traditional dress of Assam. The video says that the Mekhela Chador has been loved by the people and thus has entered the wardrobes across the world. Amazon India thanked the weavers of Assam for making the colourful Mekhela Sador which is being loved by people from various places.

Global e-commerce giant Amazon started its operations in India in June, 2013. This was after the company took its first steps into the Indian market in February, 2012 when it launched Junglee.com, a site which allowed customers to compare prices online but not purchase items directly. Apart from e-retail, the company also offers video streaming solutions through Amazon Prime Video in India.

Bengaluru-based Flipkart.com is the main competitor of Amazon in India.
