Former national footballer and working president, Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) Baichung Bhutia on June 23 congratulated Chief Minister PS Goley and party for government formation in Sikkim.

Speaking before the media for the first time since the results of the Lok Sabha and Sikkim Assembly elections were declared, Bhutia said that he respect the mandate of the citizens. ”It was an experience for us. We respect the mandate. We would like to support the Sikkim Krantikranti Morcha (SKM) party government. Janata’s mandate implies that we will have to work harder. Facing the mandate we will extend support to the party,” said Baichung Bhutia.

HSP will be working on two core issues — serve the interest of people of Sikkim and pursue clean politic, said Bhutia. Party spokesperson Biraj Adhikari endorsing Baichung’s idea said they will continue doing whatever was declared as party policy.

Working president, Baichung expressed hope that the ruling SKM government led by PS Goley would work in the interest of Sikkim.

Commenting on his party’s rout in recent elections, Baichung said that it was because they “did not compromise on principles and indulged in clean politics”. He assured continuing with clean politics in future also.
