The flood situation in Assam improved further with no fresh areas being inundated over the last couple of days. The death toll, however, continued to increase as four more deaths were reported in the last 24 hours on July 29.
The total toll stands at 88 now in the current spate of floods in the Northeast state. Assam State Disaster Management Authority sources informed in Guwahati that the number of affected districts has gone down to 16, with over 12 lakh population still reeling under waters.
More than 14,000 people were still taking shelter in 322 relief camps across the state.
The major rivers with water level still over the danger level are Brahmaputra at Neamatighat (Jorhat) and Dhubri; Dhansiri (S) at Numaligarh (Golaghat); Jia Bharali at N.T Road Xing (Sonitpur) and Kushiara at Karimganj.
