Star Indian sprinter Hima Das from Assam has won the women’s 200m gold at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland.
Hima, the world junior champion and national record holder in 400m who has been struggling with a back problem for the past few months, clocked 23.65s on her way to the 200m gold.
This was Hima’s first competitive 200m race of the year. Hima Das has a personal best of 23.10s, which she clocked last year.
Another Indian, VK Vismaya finished third with a personal best time of 23.75s in the race at Poznan on July 2 night.
Asian champion Toor won the men’s shot put bronze with a best effort of 19.62m. His national record while winning Asian Games gold last year stands at 20.75m.
Muhammed Anas, the 400m national record holder, was third in the men’s 200m race with a timing of 20.75 seconds. KS Jeevan won the men’s 400m bronze in 47.25s.
While national record holder shot putter Tejinderpal Singh Toor bagged a bronze.
CM Sonowal congratulates Hima Das
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on July 4 congratulated athlete Hima Das for bringing laurels to the state by winning the women’s 200 meter sprint gold at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poznan, Poland.
The chief minister, through a statement, said that the Assamese youngster had added another success to her list of accomplishments as the athlete had been consistently striving hard to make her presence felt at the international athletics events. Hima’s achievements had been able to inspire the budding sportspersons in the state to aim for excellence and make the world aware about the state’s sporting prowess.
The chief minister also hoped that Hima would be able to repeat her stupendous success at all future events and the sprint star would keep making the people of the state and the country proud by her achievements at the world stage. The chief minister also extended his greetings to other medal winners from India in the event.
