Police launched an investigation into the death of a homemaker during ligation procedure on July 6 at Gomati district hospital of South Tripura allegedly due to the negligence of doctors.

The victim family registered FIR against three doctors under section 304 A of Indian Panel Code charging them of causing the death of the patient by their negligence.

However, nobody was arrested so far in connection with the case and health department has also initiated a separate enquiry into the allegation. The accused doctors denied the charges and said during the preparation of ligation the patient died due to cardiac arrest.

According to the report, Soma Nama Das (35), a homemaker of Maharani village of Udaipur was brought for ligation in the hospital as per schedule. The patient party was not sure about her pregnancy and at the last moment when the procedure was started, doctors found there was no pregnancy report with her.

She was sent to the nearby room for relaxing until test reports come. After a few minutes the patient party reported to the staff about breathing problem of Soma and doctors attended her and found she collapsed,” said a doctor of the hospital.

Later, Biswajit Das, the husband of the patient who worked as a clerk in the hospital, filed a case against Dr Tani Bhattacharjee, Dr Kajal Das and Dr Pradip Jamatia who have been in the team for carrying out ligation in the hospital. He alleged after administering the injections Soma developed breathing problem and after one and half hours of battle, she breathes her last at the operation table.
