The Assam flood situation has again turned worse after flood waters submerged new areas in a few districts following heavy rains in the past 24 hours.
With two more deaths, the death toll in Assam flood has risen to 71 as still over 28 lakh people of 19 districts are affected in the deluge.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), two persons have died due to flood in the state in past 24 hours and the death toll mounted to 71 on July 23.
One each person has died in Morigaon and Golaghat district in past 24 hours.
The flood waters have submerged hundreds of new villages in the state. The government report said that 317 new villages in Kokrajhar district has been inundated by flood waters.
Apart from the Kokrajhar district, the flood waters have submerged several new villages in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Bongaigaon and Kamrup districts on July 23.
The water level of the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries are again flowing above danger level mark in various places in the state.
The July 23 bulletin said that 2523 villages and 1,26,837 hectare of crop lands are still under water.
