As many as 180 women entrepreneurs from Northeast India will be getting help from German agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH as part of their ‘Her & Now – empowering women entrepreneurs’ project.

GIZ, along with NGO Dhriiti – the Courage Within, will help women entrepreneurs from the Northeast region in establishing their businesses by providing training besides other support.

The project plans to set up an incubation programme for 140 aspiring women entrepreneurs for around seven months and six-month acceleration training for another 40 existing micro-women entrepreneurs to take their business to the next level.

The programme will start from September after the selection process covering the entire Northeast region.

On Monday, GIZ and Dhriiti, organised a joint consultation workshop to interact and learn from key stakeholders, about the key sectors that lend themselves to micro-entrepreneurship for women in Northeast, and gain insights into the existing and potential value chains for women-led enterprises in the region.

“The workshop brought together a wide spectrum of key stakeholders in the Northeast entrepreneurial ecosystem – central and state government agencies, industry consortiums, corporate, investors, incubators and accelerators, NGOs and entrepreneurs. The workshop successfully served as a unique platform to meet and interact with like-minded change makers in the women entrepreneurship ecosystem,” said Anirban Gupta of Dhriiti.

Some of the women entrepreneurs who have joined the consultation programme on Monday said that they are hopeful and looking forward.

For over 60 years, GIZ has been working jointly with partners in India for sustainable economic, ecological, and social development.

GIZ is contributing to some of the most significant initiatives that Indian government has launched to address the country’s economic, environmental and social challenges. It supports key initiatives such as smart cities, clean India and skill India.

The German agency is implementing this project to promote aspiring and existing women entrepreneurs in India on behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project supports the Indian Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MoSDE) in improving the overall framework conditions for women-led businesses in India through implementation of incubation and acceleration support programs for women entrepreneurs.
