The last rites of a schoolgirl who died controversially were performed with thousands in attendance on July 31. The death of the Class VIII student had rocked the state as people confronted the government and school authorities demanding justice.

The JAC formed against the mysterious death of Babysana had decided to claim the body after the girl died on July 18 after a long struggle. To show solidarity and love for the girl thousands came Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) , Imphal and took the mortal remains of the and a rally was taken out towards the Standard Robert school at Canchipur and later consigned to flames.

As there were large numbers of people offering floral tributes the last rites concluded late. Massive security arrangements were taken up to control the crowd.

Chief minister N Biren Singh has assured full probe and many were detained for investigation.

Congress party has also denounced the alleged protection of the perpetrators by the government like the Unnao case. Congress leader Mangibabu said Congress party will try to make the whole nation know of the BJP government of trying to hush up the matter. Congress MLA Kh Joykishan also alleged that the government was trying to shield the perpetrators.

The state government announced that it had decided to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
