Within a month of the passing of the triple talaq bill, a woman in Assam’s Hojai district is now fighting for her life at a hospital as she was attacked by her husband and in-laws after she refused to accept triple talaq given by her husband.

This incident happened at Karaini village under Murajhar police station in Assam’s Hojai district on August 3.

According to reports, the victim woman – a mother of two – was attacked by her husband and in-laws after she refused to accept triple talaq given by her husband.

The accused man, named Islamuddin, had already married two women and was allegedly trying to marry another woman.

When his second wife had refused to accept triple talaq, the man and his family members allegedly attacked the woman.

Later, family members of the victim woman had rescued her in a serious condition and admitted her at a hospital in Hojai town.

“My elder sister was attacked by her husband and other family members. The man, already married twice, was trying to marry a third woman by giving triple talaq to my sister. But my sister didn’t accept this. Now we want justice,” the brother of the victim woman said.

Following the incident, the victim woman and her family members had lodged a complaint against Islamuddin, his mother and an unknown person. Till last reports, Murjhar Police was yet to take any action against the accused persons. They are reported to be absconding.
