Meghalaya DGP alert Tripura Police on mayhem at ICFAI University

The Meghalaya Police on Wednesday asked its Tripura counterparts to ensure safety of students, following attacks on students from outside, studying at ICFAI University, Kamalghat in Tripura.

In a statement issued here, Meghalaya Assistant Inspector General of Police, GK Iangrai said information has been received that certain issues have befallen at ICFAI University in Tripura, whereby students hailing from Meghalaya and other states are perceiving fear of being attacked and breach of their security.

“The Director General of Police, Meghalaya, R Chandranathan, had contacted his counterpart in Tripura, and he was ensured that the students will not be affected by any untoward or unforeseen incidents, and that their security will be enhanced,” he said.

Iangrai also informed that the Meghalaya Police has been co-ordinating with the Tripura Police so as to ensure the safety of the students. “For any immediate assistance required, the students or their family members can contact at telephone numbers 9436337946 and 6033090114,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has asked the ICFAI off campus at Shillong to close down in view of the incident of attack on students from Meghalaya studying at ICFAI in Tripura. The parents of the affected students also met Meghalaya Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling in the state secretariat on August 28 evening. They urged the state government to ensure safety of the students studying at ICFAI University in Tripura.
