Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has urged private investment in health sector to develop international standard healthcare infrastructure in the state considering immense prospect.

Addressing Tripura Institute of Paramedical Science (TIPS) on Saturday, Deb said Tripura could be able to prevent outflow of about Rs 250 crore annually from the state, which is being spent by the people of the state in outside for health service if the dependable infrastructure is made here.

He stated that Tripura has close proximity with Bangladesh from where everyday thousands of people have been travelling to different parts of India for treatment purpose. “The people of Bangladesh are mainly going to southern and western states of India for heath service and they face problems of language, food, culture and travel. If similar quality of service is made available in Tripura not only Bangladesh, patients from other Northeast states will come to get treatment here,” Deb pointed out.

Besides, a few international investors of health service, the state government has been trying hard to bring best health establishments of India to set up their hospitals and diagnostic centres along with dedicated medicos and non-medicos in the state, Deb said adding that the health infrastructure at government level up to village level has been improved a lot in last one and half years.

Deb stated that his government has been trying to build medical hub in PPP model. “We are in touch with US-based healthcare institutions and many more global investors besides, Indians to raise medical hub in Tripura that will certainly help our neighbours and boost economy. We are opening newly-built Regional Cancer Research Institute (RCRI) shortly, which has been built at the cost of Rs 160 crore with all super specialty services and infrastructure,” Deb added.
