Singer, actor Karan Oberoi, who was in Guwahati to attend the premiere of his big screen debut Strawberry Point, said that he was looking forward to celebrate Bihu in Guwahati with his band – Band of Boys – next year.

One of the most popular bands of the country, Band of Boys was re-united recently after they stopped playing music together. “We are looking forward to tour Northeast soon. We are going to announce it in the next two months. It’s a very musical city and secondly, we had come here in 2003 which was a fantastic experience. People here know the music. There is no greater joy for musicians than to be among the people who understand music and love music,” Karan told The News Mill after the premiere of his debut film at the 7th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival in Guwahati.

The band was formed in 2001 with Karan Oberoi, Siddharth Haldipur, Sherrin Varghese, Chintoo Bhosle and Sudhanshu Pandey. Later Pandey consequently left the group and they stopped playing together. But in 2016 they announced of starting again.

“I had a video call with the members of the band this morning and when I asked them if they would like to come to Guwahati…they told me yes…they are coming. When I go back we need to shoot a new song…it’s a lovely song. We are targeting Bihu next year so that we can celebrate Bihu here,” Karan added.

Karan, who was also in the news for his joining of the popular reality show Bigg Boss, also confirmed that he has been approached by the show. He, however, kept the options open and said that he would only join the show if he is allowed to speak freely on certain things.

“There are certain things which I want to talk in the show which are very important from social standpoint…what’s gone wrong in the country…there is something that needs to be corrected. I have conveyed to them that this is why I would be coming there. If they feel comfortable that I can express my views openly and freely and talk about what is the need of the hour. Then I will come…otherwise I will see. Either I will joining tonight or may be later. It’s subject to the understanding between the two of us,” Karan added.

Speaking further on his film which belongs to a different genre of having just a single character, he said it was extremely challenging.

“It’s a wonder project and experience as an actor. It’s very tough task to make a film like that. I always tell everyone that there’s just five such movies in the world true to the genre. It’s very special. You have to watch it to understand why it is India’s first such movie,” said Karan who has also co-produced the film.

The film having an English and Hindi version is directed by Prabal Baruah, an Assamese filmmaker based in Mumbai.
