Adil Hussain

Actor Adil Hussain, who has grabbed headlines recently for being part of the Star Trek: Discovery cast, said that he is delighted to see the films from Northeast India doing well at the global arena.

Recently, Adil Hussain-starrer ‘Lorni – The Flaneur’, a Khasi-language film from Meghalaya became the lone Indian film in the First Feature Competition of the cutting-edge Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival of Estonia.

“It means a great deal for me that I know for sure there are amazing talents hidden in the mines of Northeast. Because of various reasons, we have not explored those gems and now slowly it has come up. I cannot express my delight that Lorni is selected in Black Nights festival in Tallin. It is obviously a great boost for the film and the people involved in the film, especially for Wanphrang Diengdoh, because, he has put his heart and soul into it,” Adil told The News Mill.

Lorni is about Shem, played by Adil Hussain, who is a detective with no job at hand. The self-styled detective with a sharp sense of the streets escapes the lethargy of small town Shillong when he is asked to investigate the disappearance of objects worthy of great cultural value. Navigating narrow streets and dark alleys, he embarks on an emotional and mental journey reflective of his reality.

Shillong-based RedDur Productions, Maiti Pictures owned by noted Khasi actress Sweety Jane Pala and Easterly Entertainment owned by Shahnaab Alam have produced the film.

“And for the producers as well – Sweety Pala and Shahnaab – it is a huge boost who believed in the story telling of Wanphrang and trusted the project. They made sure that it becomes a project which is going to be a worthy competitor. I’m really proud of Wanphrang and the rest of the amazing actors in the film,” Adil added.

Apart from Lorni, another Khasi language film ‘Iewduh’ directed by Pradip Kurbah recently won the Kim Ji-seok Award at the 24th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea.

On his association with the Star Trek: Discovery cast, though Adil is not allowed to speak much about the project, the Life of Pi star said that he is happy to be a part of it.

The makers of the popular series recently shared the trailer on social media in which Adil is seen briefly alongside other actors.
