Manipur police has seized a huge quantity of illegal Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 9.60 lakh and a truck in Jiribam district on Thursday evening, officials said on Friday.

Jiribam district Superintendent of Police (SP) M Mubi Singh said that, as a part of continuous drive against illicit drugs and liquor, a team of Jiribam police had conducted frisking and checking of goods carrier trucks at Jiribam foreigners check post gate.

“During the checking, the police team had found huge quantity illegal IMFL from a truck which was coming from Assam. The illegal liquor was found concealed under onion, potato bags,” M Mubi Singh said.

The police team seized a total of 6156 bottles of whisky, rum and beer from the truck.

Police had also seized the truck and arrested the driver who was identified as Khwairakpam Romesh Singh.

The value of the seized liquor is estimated to be Rs 9.60 lakh.

The Jiribam district SP further said that, the seized liquor was loaded at Nalapara area in Guwahati. The truck was trying to transport it to Imphal.

The seized items were handed over to the Excise department for further necessary proceedings.
