The atmosphere of uncertainty in Sikkim came to a halt with PS Tamang, better known as PS Golay, swearing-in as member of the state assembly in Gangtok on November 4.

Golay won the recently-held by-elections. He took over as the chief minister of Sikkim in May this year after he was declared leader of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party.

Former chief minister Pawan Chamling, MLA from Namchi Singithang, who was on protest against PS Golay taking over as CM in May despite disqualification imposed on him, did not take part in the function.

As the disqualification was removed by the Election Commission, political circles expected Chamling to attend the Assembly session. However, with Golay taking over again, ruling SKM has no more issues of leadership.

Chief Minister Golay said his government would give priority to fulfilling the promises made to the public. “We have seen government changing but system is yet to be transformed,” the chief minister said.

Two other MLAs, who had emerged victorious in by-elections last month, were also administered oath. BJP MLAs Yong Tshering Lepcha and Sonam T Vechungpa were administered Oath of Affirmation. Yong Tshering is MLA from Gangtok and Sonam T Vechungpa from Martam Rumtek.
