First Northeast Unsung Heroes award in Mumbai – The News Mill

The first-of-its-kind Northeast Unsung Heroes Red Carpet Social Awards 2019, is all set to honour the unsung heroes for their contribution in different sectors in society.

At least 24 such heroes from the eight states of Northeast India, who have been working relentlessly, would be feted in Mumbai on November 15.

The award is initiated by Find Studios and SEIL in association with UFO with the presenting partner BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) supported by Mumbai Dabbawala Association and institute partner Mumbai University and IIM Shillong. The News Mill is also one of the partners of the event.

Founder Rebecca Changkija Sema has started the journey with her home state Nagaland and then in Sikkim, she is quite excited to see her brain- child growing every year. Earlier it was confined to the state but now it’s for the first time, the award is covering the whole Northeast region and being held in the financial capital.

Co-organiser Jutikaa Mahanta, who has been working tirelessly for decades in promoting Assam and the Northeast in various platforms nationally and internally, is equally excited for the event.

“This is our humble effort towards national integration and to encourage the unsung heroes of our region in the financial capital of the county. Let us uplift each other and grow together. Every community help each other to grow and this is the high time that we all northeastern must learn and follow it,” said Mahanta who is also the international coordinator for Asam Sahitya Sabha.

Mahanta further said that being based in Mumbai, she has been trying to promote and uplift the region from where she belongs.

Around 24 unsung heroes of eight states of Northeast India will be recognized for their silent contribution to the society in the presence of Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Union minister of state (I/C) youth affairs and sports Kiren Rijiju among other sports personalities and Bollywood celebrities.

The jury members are principal scientist of Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai, Rupam Sharma, technical director of National Informatics Centre Ireni Akoijam, senior journalist and author Samudra Gupta Kashyap, filmmaker and social activist Akashaditya Lama, social worker and community leader OR Shallom.
