Tourists visiting the Northeast state of Nagaland can now get their Inner Line Permits (ILP) online as Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on November 8 launched the online ILP service for tourists.

Speaking on the occasion, Nagaland Principal Secretary for Home Abhijit Sinha informed that any tourist, who desires an online Inner Line Permit (ILP) may visit, where they will be requested to get registered by providing their phone number and One Time Password (OTP) will be generated and sent to the phone number provided and this will be used for registration.

Thereafter, the applicant will be sent to a page wherein they will be required to fill up all their particulars and upload a passport-size photo along with a valid government-recognised photo ID such as Aadhaar, Pan card, EPIC card, driving license, passport or government ID.

For a child, who is 10 years and below, instead of any of the documents, their school photo ID is sufficient.

Sinha said that the applicant after filling up all the requisite details, will then press the submit button. Thereafter the submitted details will be automatically transmitted electronically to the Commissioner Nagaland, who has been authorised to examine and on finding that everything is in order will electronically grant approval for issue of ILP. “Once it is approved, the applicant will get an SMS in their registered phone and an email will also be sent conveying that their ILP application has been approved and they may proceed for online payment,” he said.
The applicant will need to make an online payment of Rs 50 for 15 days duration and Rs 100 for 30 days duration.

The official further informed that after the payment is made, the applicant will be issued an ILP card electronically and intimation will be sent to them via both SMS and email by clearly mentioning the ILP number. Thereafter the applicant may simply download the ILP card in their email or visit the online ILP portal and then enter the received ILP number to download the ILP card.

The tourist may either take a print out of the ILP Card or a digital copy of the same on their mobile phone and the same will be considered as a valid lLP document when accompanied by a valid government-recognized Photo ID in original.

The Online ILP is going to significantly ease the process of getting an ILP by any tourist from any part of the country who desires to visit Nagaland, particularly for the upcoming Hornbill festival. It is also going to be another important step in the state government’s march towards e-governance.

The official said that online ILP in Nagaland will improve the overall quality of monitoring of the implementation of the ILP system as all the concerned enforcement agencies or the government will have access to real-time information of the applicants, the number of approvals obtained, the duration of visits and the places of visit.

He further informed that the present online ILP module is only for domestic tourists. “If it is done in working days the whole process will just take 5 to 10 minutes,” Sinha said. The online ILP module is in addition to the manual mode, which will still be in operation, he added.

The online ILP system has been successfully implemented in Arunachal Pradesh as well. Online ILP was introduced in Arunachal Pradesh in 2017.
